Welcome to the Oregon Board of Architect Examiners

Agency Overview

The Board of Architect Examiners was established in 1919 when Chapter 671 of the Oregon Revised Statutes was enacted. The Board is composed of seven members, five of whom represent the profession and two of whom represent the general public. The Board's mission is to protect the public through licensing and regulating the practice of Architecture in Oregon.

Legislative Charge

The Board is charged with ensuring that only persons with at least a minimum level of competence are permitted to practice and that practicing architects adhere to the prescribed professional standards of conduct. Accordingly, the regulatory process consists of two functions: Ascertaining competence and disciplining those who violate the law. The Board is primarily concerned with the quality and safety of buildings constructed within the Oregon borders.

Objectives

To safeguard life, health, and property and to eliminate unnecessary loss and waste in this state; and to ensure Oregon's citizens receive continued competent architectural services.
