What is a firm? Architectural firms are defined as corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, or sole proprietors who are practicing architecture under an assumed business name. Sole proprietors operating under their own given name are the only exemption from this regulation. In addition to this board's requirements, firms are also required to comply with the Oregon Secretary of State, Corporation Division-Business Registry requirements. For more information, you may contact their office at 255 Capitol Street NE, Suite 151, Salem, OR 97310, (503) 986-2200, or click on the hyperlink below to visit their web site. http://www.filinginoregon.com. Do I need to register a firm with the Architect Board in addition to holding an active architect registration? If an architect practices architecture in Oregon under their own name, the only registration necessary is their individual architect registration. However, if an architect wishes to practice architecture under any other name, they must register their firm with this Board BEFORE they may offer architectural services or practice architecture under that name (ORS 671.041, OAR 806-010-0080, and OAR 806-010-0110). If an architect chooses to practice under their own name only, any firm name(s) may not appear on title blocks, contracts, letterhead, business cards, etc. for Oregon projects. How do I register my firm? To register your firm with this board, complete and return the Architectural Firm Application. Please carefully read the instructions and return any required documentation with the application. Failure to return the documentation will delay the registration process or may result in denial of your application. When completing the application, please note that the name of your firm must comply with the firm name requirements listed on the instruction page of the application. Please feel free to contact the Board office if you have questions or if you require additional assistance. |
